Attend a wide open day

Programme description

The study levels of MPhil and PhD can be found most of the primary three strands of Drama at Manchester: Theatre Studies, Applied Theatre and Screen Studies. You’ll have a supervisor having a specialism associated with your field of research, and can write a complete 80,000 word thesis or develop a practice-based dissertation. The practice-based dissertation provides you with the chance to submit practice in your final thesis submission. EmployeesOrcollege student seminar series, Cultivating Research, supplies a regular forum of dialogue and also the presentation of short papers on an array of topics, and functions as a focus within the postgraduate research culture.

Within the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Drama at Manchester retained our ranking as second across the country among United kingdom Drama departments. All staff are research active inside the three primary strands define our profile: Theatre/Performance Studies, Applied Theatre, and Screen Studies. These areas interlink, and both staff and students want to mix the limitations in one section of research to a different. The idea of ‘dialogue’ – with ideas, practices, communities – is in the centre of our practical and intellectual explorations. We frequently initiate research-council-funded projects, present seminar series and host conferences. Current ongoing projects include `In Host to War’ (on theatre in places of conflict), and `Towards Hydro-Citizenship’ (engaging communities with water issues).
