Honors Thesis Timeline
The following dates reflect the typical timeline for a student completing an Honors thesis.
Co-op students and December graduates will have timelines different from that of the typical full-time Honors student. If you fall into one of these categories, please schedule a meeting with the Associate Director of Research to discuss a personalized timeline. Note that the majority of the following dates still apply.
Fourth or Fifth Semester
September
Submit Initial Information Document indicating interest in completing an Honors Program diploma.
September/October
Attend required Junior Honors Diploma Workshop .
December 10
Submit the Thesis Intent Document ; the Honors Thesis Mentor must be chosen by this date. This formally acknowledges the student as a thesis writer.
- Submit by 12/10/16 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/18
- Submit by 12/10/17 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/19
- Submit by 12/10/18 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/20
- Submit by 12/10/19 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/21
Sixth Semester
January
Honors Program checks academic standing (student need take no action).
February
Attend required Junior Thesis Workshop .
Attend required Research Tools and Resources Workshop .
Complete Ethics training
April 1
Submit the Thesis Research Proposal and Fellowship Application.
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/17 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2018
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/18 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2019
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/19 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2020
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/20 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2021
Grant awards announced in late April.
May 1
Thesis Progress Report I from Honors Thesis Mentor (student need take no action).
July 1
Thesis fellowships disbursed.
Seventh Semester
October
Attend required Senior Thesis Workshop .
November 1
Thesis Progress Report II from Honors Thesis Mentor (student need take no action).
November 15 (December graduates only)
To graduate with an Honors Program diploma submit digital copy all Word documents of the student’s thesis to the University Honors Program Office Coordinator.*
*Important Note : The Honors Program will have three copies of the Honors Thesis Project printed at the UD Copy Center (one each for student, mentor and UHP), plus a copy for any additional mentors.
Eighth Semester
January 31
Complete the Symposium Registration Form to register thesis information for the Honors Students Symposium.
March 1
Thesis Progress Report III from Honors Thesis Mentor (student need take no action).
March
Oral presentation of thesis at the Honors Students Symposium (HSS).
- You participate in the HSS March 2017 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/17
- You participate in the HSS March 2018 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/18
- You participate in the HSS March 2019 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/19
- You participate in the HSS March 2020 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/20
April
Poster presentation at the Stander Symposium.
April 7
To graduate with an Honors Program diploma submit digital copy all Word documents of the student’s thesis to the University Honors Program Office Coordinator.

*Important Note : The Honors Program will have three copies of the Honors Thesis Project printed at the UD Copy Center (one each for student, mentor and UHP), plus a copy for any additional mentors.
May 1
Honors thesis mentor submits change-of-grade forms for six hours of thesis credit (student need take no action).
