Management accounting topics for thesis writing or take note of interesting

Students of all majors can find it difficult to choose a thesis topic; finding a topic that is interesting, enjoyable to research, and easy to write about can be difficult. However, it’s particularly difficult for accounting students to choose a thesis topic, as accounting can be a rather dry subject, and doesn’t lend itself well to written papers. To help these students, we’ve compiled a list of general topics which can be used to help generate a fun and easy thesis:

  • Bookkeeping
  • Auditing
  • Stock markets
  • Investments
  • Management accounting
  • Financial accounting
  • National economies
  • Regional economies
  • Global economy
  • Global banking
  • Financial law
  • International finance
  • International trade

Of course, choosing a general topic for one’s accounting thesis paper is only the beginning. A thesis paper starts with a thesis statement, which should be a clear, concise, arguable position. To come up with a thesis statement, one must consider what a thesis statement essentially is: a hypothetical answer to a question the student has. To come up with a great thesis statement, one must do the following:

  1. The student should choose one of the thesis topics from the list above that he or she finds appealing.
  2. The student should then do some background reading on that topic—textbook chapters, well-known articles, and current events.
  3. While reading, the student should jot down questions they come up with on the topic, or take note of interesting facts that they would like to read more about.
  4. Research more deeply into the questions and facts noted during background reading.
  5. Next, they should come up with a list of more specific questions about one of the topics they’ve learned about.
  6. See which of these questions haven’t been addressed in the literature, or adjust the questions until the student has a new question. The thesis statement should be unique.
  7. Once a favorite question has been chosen, the student should determine whether or not it can be answered with research. If so, proceed.
  8. The student should come up with a hypothetical answer to the question. This answer should not be obvious; if it is, it means the question is not unique enough. It should also be an answer which can be supported or refuted through research.
  9. Polish this “answer” by writing it in statement form, in a specific, clear, and concise manner.
  10. Have the thesis topic approved by the instructor.
