Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis Assignment –

1. Read and Review the &”Edward Snowden Interview&” (see attached)

2. Conduct Initial Coding noting:

a. Descriptive Comments: Use yellow highlighting to identify descriptive data—anything that conveys the lived experience of the participant and the meaning they find in that experience. At the end of each highlighted excerpt, insert a Comment. Then, code the data such that the text within the comment balloons conveys information about the experience or meaning of the phenomenon.

b. Linguistic Comments: Use green highlighting to identify significant linguistic features, insert Comment Balloons for each excerpt of highlighted text.

c. Conceptual Comments: Use blue highlighting to identify data that inspires conceptual

comments. Then, insert Comment Balloons for each excerpt.

3. Development of Themes and Report of Findings: Based upon your analysis, identify two or three themes that capture the experience and meaning of the phenomenon for your participant. Then, in approximately two pages double-spaced compose a report of your findings, presenting your results in a manner consistent with IPA.

4. Write a 1-2 page summary of the method you used and steps you took to conduct your analysis.
