    • This highlighted lecture and recital will explore the styles of affection and marriage as reflected in Ireland’s traditional soundscape. While keeping focused around the lifeworlds of musicmakers and the way they chronicle the universal styles of affection and marriage, the presentation will focus especially on marriage rituals as celebrated within the traditional music, song and dance of Clare.

Cumann Merriman is definitely an Irish cultural organisation. It’s named after John Merriman, author from the celebrated 18th century Rabelaisian poem, Cirt an Mhen Oche (The Night time Court). Its aims since its foundation in 1967. Find out more .
