Latter-day Learning is pleased to announce the launch of The Family School High School Pilot. Why. Out of a desire to expand The Family School’s usefulness to parents and their children to age 18, Latter-day Learning recently announced The Family School High School Pilot. What. The Family School High School Pilot provides high school level curriculum, participation, and grading for students, families, and study groups. The pilot is designed to provide well-organized, primary-source-rich resources to help home school teachers conduct study and discussions in the topics of The Family School on a high school level. The pilot includes primary source readings, discussion questions, and authentic projects based in the methods of Latter-day Learning. These methods, which are outlined in Family School Foundations: A Parent Guidebook, build academic understanding on a foundation of scripture and LDS teachings (please see Disclaimer). Please note the following: The pilot curriculum addresses History, Literature, Geography, Science, Music, and Art. The pilot will approximately follow the scope and sequence of The Family School—Year 2, with some important exceptions (for example, Literature will address high school level works). The Family School High School Pilot is a set of curriculum, administered by Latter-day Learning, and also available for use by parents and cooperative learning group teachers. All high school curriculum during the pilot year will be delivered as follows: Digitally via a password-protected website that will be accessible by internet-enabled computers and personal electronic devices; For a 24-month-subscription period from the date of purchase or until September 1, 2016, whichever is later; In phases starting September 2, 2014 (formerly August 25, 2014); and With calendar and other course information sent separately to paying registrants.

For-Credit Option. During the pilot year grading, credit, and transcripts will be offered as an additional, low-cost option to students who use the pilot curriculum and submit the required coursework for evaluation and mentoring. Instructions about submitting coursework will be delivered to registrants in August and courses will begin September 2. Topics Prices. Because we are piloting this offering, the following subjects and prices are available only for 2014/15, and are subject to change thereafter to be comparable to the pricing of The Family School (K–8) curriculum: History 500 BC–1300 AD: $75 for curriculum only; for 1.0 accredited high school history credit, add $75.
