Lamy safari stub nib writing The Lamy

QM2 24 Jun 2008

I will try to post a sample tomorrow from work; I keep most of my Lamys there now. I have to say, that I’;ve now replaced all but 1 of my (steel) EF Lamy nibs with 1.1 stubs; the steel EFs just weren’;t getting very much use as I now have so many excellent and custom ground EF pens. The 1.1 stubs, on the other hand, are the best and cheapest way I know of to try out a decent stub. I heartily recommend them.

I may be able to post a sample in a few days. It’;s a comparison between my self-ground Lamy 0.8 italic (was a Lamy 1.5 before) and a Lamy F nib. In the meantime you could have a look at the 0.8 sample in my previous thread .

I can’;t seem to pull one up from the search.
Can I trouble someone for a writing sample comparing the EF/F nib to the 1.1mm? Thanks!

Biffy, thank you! I’;m trying to see blow it up, to see closer but the picture appears only to be one size?

Ahh. Good point. You have to join FLickr and then add me as a friend to see the All Sizes option.

That comparison would be like Night and Day. The Lamy EF and F run very true to size, IME. The 1.1mm stub puts down that exat line width with a sharp edge.

Okay, here are the samples.
All are Safaris/Al-Stars with non-modified steel nibs, filled with Private Reserve Orange Crush.

Lamy safari stub nib writing italic is, in my view

The paper is Clairefontaine 5×5 grid.

First sample is an EF nib;
Second sample is an 1.1 italic nib;
Third sample is an 1.5 italic nib;
Fourth sample is same nib as third sample, but the writing is decorative (just to show what you can do with this nib).

FYI, the italics are stubs rather than cursive or formal italics.
The 1.1 italic is, in my view, perfectly suitable for normal daily handwriting. It puts down a precise, controlled line and does not spew out too much ink.

Hope this is helpful,
QM2

QM2, this is EXACTLY the kind of sample I was looking for. I wanted to see if the 1.1 was suitable for everyday writing and it appears to be! Its gorgeous with your wonderful handwriting! Thank you sooo much!

Mmmmmm, nice
Looking in the near future, I see myself buying my first Lamy
I believe I’;ve seen 1.1 stub Vistas for $19.99 on eBay.
