Cardiff university history dissertation prizes Background and

Searching for Roman attitudes to warfare has mostly focused on everyone and often biased views of poets and orators. However, the chance of domestic decoration, especially wall works of art, to point the way a Roman people viewed warfare has ongoing to get largely untouched. My interest is founded on identifying types of Roman wall painting along with other domestic decoration that report to military victory and triumph. Works of art from Pompeii, Herculaneum, Rome along with other domestic decoration from Fregellae, Boscoreale, Oplontis and beyond may show the ever-present role of warfare within the Roman condition introduced having a elevated knowledge of warfare inside the Roman home. While using research in to the decoration I’m wishing for more information on how warfare pervaded the domestic sphere in Roman society. I strive to understand what lengths such imagery held a propagandistic value or was simply the development of fashion using the Republic and Imperial periods.
