Writing 101 reflective essay thesis It practically brought me from

The development of a computer has made life a lot easier for ordinary people. People could most of the things they wanted in a faster and a better way. Writing 101 has done a similar thing for me. It practically brought me from the Stone Age to the 21 century in one way or the other. Before taking this class, my writing wasn’t even good to look at. This course has brought me up to higher level then I thought it could have. Throughout Writing 101, I’ve learned to become a real writer. The included essays will serve as an indicator to demonstrate that I’ve gained tremendous strength in writing this quarter.

One of the biggest improvements which I noticed this quarter is the ability to write a strong introduction essay with an interesting hook to it, along with a good thesis. In the first essay, &”Bacon’s Rebellion&” I wrote a good introduction. In that introduction, I made a smooth transition form the hook to my thesis. In that essay, for the hook I brought up the example about how Cain killed Abel. That example fitted perfectly with Bacon’s situation because Nathanial, a rebel, went against his cousin Berkley. In the second essay, the introduction is also well organized. My topic was about the ratification of the constitution and the point I needed to prove was combining the states together will make a strong nation. In the introduction, I started out with the example that happened a long time ago about the thirteen pencils. That example supported my thesis in a thorough way. Comparing the essays I wrote this year with the essays I wrote last year, I see a big change in the introduction paragraphs.

The second point in which I improved on is using examples in my writing and having good credible sources.

When the topic is not of my choice and I need to find information on it, I used to go to Google, type what I was looking for, and get anything that came to hands. Most of the information I used came from .com sites and when I tried to present it in my essay, I had nothing to support it with. A new way I do searching now involves searching for information in databases. When searching in a database, the sources are credible and are useful in writing. To make my writing more efficient, I used to embed examples caring less if they were fitted or not. By taking this course, I learned that examples are only helpful if they prove the point I try to argue. In the first essay &”Bacon’s Rebellion&”, the example I use is not made up at the top of my head, but something that happened in the past and as a saying says, History repeats itself. That example was very helpful because it was a popular event that most people know about and it really got the main topic across.

Other strengths in writing include my ability to organize ideas and connect with the reader. When writing an essay, I try to engage the reader with the topic. To do that, I ask question in the essay. When writing &”Bacon’s Rebellion&”, after giving them my example, I asked them a question &”Some one can say that it only happened once and will never happen again or can it?&” When the reader is being asked a question, they take a time to answer it.

Writing 101 reflective essay thesis To make my writing more

After answering it, they want to hear my opinion so they become more interested in reading the essay to the end. When writing essays, I have many thoughts come to mind. If I include ever thought that came to mind in the essay, I will be like a pile of random words. To make sure that does not happen, I organize my writing by doing an outline. Outlines help me organize my thoughts and make me focus on one part of the essay at once.

My writing style has changed a lot during this past quarter. All my life, I have never used any specific format in my writing. I used to sit down, and write my final draft without any outlines of drafts. This class has encouraged me to change my style to make my writing better. In the first essay, I wrote the draft without using the outline and when I read it over, it sounded like I was talking about everything at once. Then I started all over again starting with an outline. After the outline, I combined all my points into paragraphs and connected them with one another. To make my writing more interesting, my teacher showed me the &”They say, I say&” format and that helped me out a lot. Before publishing a final draft, I write at least one rough draft and revise it after. Looking back at my writing before I took this course and comparing it with now, it has changed a lot and I like it.

A few grammatical errors are in need of revision in your letter. Besides that, though, it is definetly one of the most excellent letters I’ve seen in our entire cohort! Awesome job, Sergey! Keep it up!

Amazing letter. Like Jordan said, a few gramatical errors but otherwise it is a great letter.

I really like it, I think that it could possibly have a better ‘hook.’ I will admit, that it’s better than most other people’s hooks though. Job well done, keep working on those gramatical errors.

The only problem I see here is wordiness, ie “The second point in which I improved on is using examples in my writing and having good credible sources.”

Be sure to quote the essays as your evidence for your claims.

Overall, great start!
