Leigh Douglas Staff Prize in Politics and International Relations

This prize was established in memory of the late Leigh Douglas, formerly a student in the Department, who was killed in Lebanon in 1986. It will be awarded to the undergraduate with the best results in Politics and International Relations in Part I, irrespective of his/her intended scheme of studies in Part II. If circumstances rise where the results of any two undergraduates are effectively equal, then the prize may be awarded to both and then the prize divided between them. The prize is currently worth £50.

The Pearson Education/PA Reynolds Prize in International Relations

This prize is the result of a donation made by the Pearson Education group and was established to record the contribution made to the Department by Philip Reynolds, its first Professor and later Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University. The prize will be awarded to the third-year undergraduate who is registered for a degree in which Politics and International Relations is the major or one of the major subjects and who has secured the best results in International Relations combined with good results in at least one or more subjects in theory or comparative politics. The recommendation for its award will be made by the Part II Board of Examiners in Politics and International Relations. The value of the prize is currently worth £100 worth of books selected from the catalogues of Pearson Education.

The Oakeshott/Routledge Prize

This prize is the result of a donation by Routledge and is in honour of Michael Joseph Oakeshott, formerly Professor of Political Science in the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The prize will be awarded to the third-year undergraduate who is registered for a degree in which Politics and International Relations is the major or one of the major subjects and who has secured the best results in any combination of courses in political theory or comparative politics. The prize is currently £250 worth of books selected from the catalogues of Routledge.

The Joan Wardman Peace Prize

This prize is awarded for the best contribution to work on Peace studies during the past year. The prize is currently worth £50.

Dissertation Prize

This prize is awarded annually to the final-year student producing the best performance on PPR.399. The prize is currently worth £50.

Departmental Prize for the Best Performance in the 2nd Year

This prize is awarded annually to the student who achieves the best overall results in Politics and International Relations courses in the second year. The prize is currently worth £50.

Religious Studies Prizes

The Paul Fletcher Prize

This annual prize was established in memory of Dr Paul Fletcher, a lecturer in the former Department of Religious Studies, who died in 2008. The prize will be awarded for the best dissertation in Religious Studies. The money for this prize comes from the Paul Fletcher Memorial Fund. The prize is currently worth £50.

The Angela Belson Prize

This prize, for the best work on Islamic topics, commemorates Angela Belson, a second year student who died in 1978. The prize is currently worth £150.

This prize, for the best third year student, commemorates Ninian Smart, the founder of the Department of Religious Studies. The prize is currently worth £50.
