J tia taylor dissertation proposal Still working at the laboratory

Summary

J’Tia Taylor began her academic career at The Florida State University in Tallahassee, where she studied Industrial Engineering. After graduating with honors and a Bachelor of Science, she enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, turning her focus to Nuclear Engineering. In her first summer at the university, she immediately became involved on campus as a physics instructor in the Upward Bound Program. Studying various aspects of nuclear engineering, including energy security and the economics of nuclear power, her Master’s thesis examined the activation of the university’s Advanced TRIGA Research Reactor’s biological shield. With her Master’s degree in hand, she continued at the University of Illinois to pursuing her doctorate in Nuclear Engineering. While preparing her dissertation, a tool for assessing leasing options for nuclear fuel, J’Tia Taylor maintained involvement with several academic groups and organizations. Throughout her postgraduate studies from 2002 to 2010, she belonged to the American Nuclear Society’s Alpha Nu Sigma National Honor Society for Nuclear Science and Engineering. Taylor also was awarded fellowships with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission; The Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS); and the World Nuclear University Summer Institute. She completed three internships, as well: one focusing on criticality safety at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, one concentrating on global security and safeguards at the Sandia National Laboratories, and the other studying nuclear fuel cycle simulation at Idaho National Laboratory. As one of the nation’s top students in the field, J’Tia Taylor spoke at several conferences, including several meetings of the American Nuclear Society and the International Nuclear Renewable Energy Conference 2010.
